Will Miami Become The Next Las Vegas?

Despite Florida’s notorious reputation for being full of older retired women who love slot machines, Floridian voters have time and time again been against Las Vegas-style casinos.  In response, those in the “pro-gaming” group decided to change the strategy instead to taking small steps towards an overall bigger goal.  Slot machines started showing up in horse and dog-racing tracks in S. Florida and poker rooms began popping up throughout the state.  Now it seems that Florida’s residents are warming up to the idea of casinos and as a voting populace have become more tolerant of gambling as a whole.

So, could Miami become the new Vegas?

From the looks of it, as international casino giants purchase waterfront properties in Miami and big names like Wynn Resorts are lobbying local lawmakers, it certainly looks like it!

Aside from this news being great for people who want to gamble in the state of Florida, it’s also great news for Florida’s economy.  New casinos will pump more money into the economy and it will provide tens of thousands of new jobs.  Casino’s of this caliber come with hotels, restaurants, and convention space to name a few amenities! Recent polls show that 50% of voters in South Florida support building casinos in Miami/Miami Beach.   And, there’s definitely money to be made!

Currently, the gambling industry in Florida is worth around $2 billion.
