Understand the Craps Table Layout

By Pamela PattersonGoogle
A craps table can be very confusing if you have never played or seen one before. Have no worries, in this article we will explain everything there is to know and have you winning Craps in no time.

The main parts of the Craps table you want to focus on are the Pass Lines, the Come Field, and the Point numbers.

Pass Line

The pass Line bet is one made by almost every player. The Pass Line will be on the outer edge of the table and clearly labeled Pass Line. When a shooter (person rolling the dice) is on his/her first roll you have the option to place a Pass Line bet. You are betting that the shooter will roll a point before crapping out. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you win even money, if the roll is a 12, you lose. If the roll is any other number, your pass line bet stays and this number becomes the point.

If the shooter rolls anything other than a 7, 11 or 12, this becomes the point number. Your Pass Line bet wins if the shooter rolls this number before a 7. The point number will be easily seen by a marker placed on it so there is no confusion.

Don’t Pass

The Don’t Pass bet is almost the opposite of a Pass Line bet. If the first roll is 2 or 3, you win. If it is a 7 or 11, then you lose. If it’s a 12 you win your money back and it’sconsidered a push. You are basically betting against all players who bet the Pass Line.

The Don’t Pass bet is located directly above the Pass Line bar and is clearly marked, “Don’t Pass”.

The Point

At the top of a Craps you will see numbers; 10, 9, 8, 6, 5 and 4. These are the point numbers and are only there to show what the point is. Once the shooter throws the point number on his first roll, the dealer will put a marker on the corresponding number on the table. This makes it easy for everyone to see what the point number is.

Players may also place bets on these numbers. Placing a chip on one of these numbers after a first roll signifies you are betting on this number to be thrown before a 7. You can bet on any of the numbers, not just the point number only after the point is declared.

Underneath the Point numbers will be a Come field. This is just like a pass line bet, only after the fact. Once the shooter rolls the point number, you can place a come bet and the number rolled form this part on will act as the point number for all Come bets.

Big 8 and Big 6

You will a space that is labeled Big 6 and Big 8 on the table. This is simply a place to wager on a 6 or 8 being rolled before a 7. These are considered sucker bets as you get better odds by using the point numbers to place a wager on these numbers.

The Field

In the middle of the table you will see large area with numbers; 2, 3, 4,9,10, 11 and 12. The 2 and 12 are usually larger and circled. This is a onetime bet on the next roll that one of these numbers will be rolled. This is yet another bet that should be stayed away from as it lays terrible odds to the player.

Prop Bets

Directly in the middle of a Craps table you will see a few boxes with numbers in them. The first is a box that will seven. This box offers 5-1 odds on the shooter roiling a 7 on the next roll.

The next 3 boxes will be placing bets on the shooter rolling doubles. The first is a 5-1 bet that the next roll will be double 2s or 5s.

Underneath this will be a 10-1 bet on the shooter rolling double 1s or 6s

Finally we have the 15-1 bet for rolling a 2 and a 1 or a 5 and a 6. The dice have to be exactly a 2 and a 1 or a 5 and a 6 for this bet to win. These may seem like good odds and can be a nice payout when won, but these are in reality more bad bets that should never be used.

As you can see the Craps table is really not that difficult and only appears that way. Most of the layout is doubled on both sides so that all players can easily reach the bets and see all the action. This may add to the confusion for beginners, but now that you are a pro, you will have no problems placing bets and winning at your next Craps table.
