Schematics and plans are already on the roll, and it’s official: Twitch is in for a big fight. With YouTube Gaming, Twitch will no longer remain the premier gamer’s platform.

YouTube Gaming will be launched by Google on Wednesday, 26 August. The vision behind this platform is to create a “go-to destination for anything and everything gaming.” It is an exciting prospect for everyone associated with the gaming world, which includes the poker community, because everyone likes a bit of challenge in their poker games.

The gaming platform will feature in excess of 25,000 pages full of gaming information. Content of gaming will be organized by video content and by genre, making it the go-to stop for retrieval of highly specific gaming content. Google also plans to launch a beta version of a brand new live streaming dashboard. The key difference between Twitch and this platform is that this one is more flexible. YouTube Gaming does away with the rigid streaming system which Twitch currently has in place. Instead, it integrates a HTML5 stream when players want live streaming.

The operating capacity of the new stream is expected to be 60fps, and each stream will contain its own custom URL to offer users ease of sharing. Moreover, gamers will be able to chat easily with other community members/ streamers during various live streaming events.

The live video platform, Twitch, was launched on June 6, 2011, by Emmett Shear and Justin Kan, who are the co-founders of Justin.tv, one of the first user content streaming sites on the web. Shear and Kan raised $35 in funds for the launch of the site, and Amazon signed a deal worth roughly $970m with them during the last summer. This was a surprise takeover for many, since news had been circulating that Google had agreed to acquire the gaming site in an all-cash contract worth over $1 billion. Google had bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006.

The new live streaming channel, YouTube Gaming, will shortly be available everywhere YouTube is available. Communities are all geared up for a hot rivalry between the two industry leaders. The competition is likely to be game changing. It will be interesting to see how Twitch responds to the competition and what, if any, changes it introduces into its own gaming platform.
