Universität-Umfrage zeigt die NY State Bewohner Unterstützung Legalisierung von Casino-Glücksspiel

In a recent poll published by Quinnipiac University (published by the major news agency Reuters), New York state residents who are registered voters are mainly in favor of legalizing casino gambling.  The findings don’t come as a major surprise given that the state is suffering from the latest economic downturns.  Out of a sample of 1061 voters, 56% support legalizing casino gambling in the state of New York and 34% oppose it.

At this point in time, New York State does allow gambling but only on land that is owned by Native Americans (and is considered to be a separate jurisdiction).  On non-Native American owned land, all that is permissible are slot games at horse racing tracks.  It would be a bit of a bureaucratic process to get New York State to be a host city for America’s next Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

The poll showed that people were generally (64%) in favor as they felt that creating a casino industry in New York State would be healthy for the state’s economy, benefiting residents.  Not surprisingly, Governor Andrew Cuomo (Democrat) is echoing his constituents and has mentioned wanting to push towards opening up the market for specific games like blackjack.  He feels that even a small change could bring a lot of money into the state and he’ll make it clear whether or not this is the avenue that he will indeed pursue by January 2012.
