Online Gambling Underage a Federal Crime

Even though many of the online casinos try their best to ensure that all their members are completely legit, it is still an uphill struggle to know exactly who is playing on the other end of the wire. In most countries you need to be over 18 to own a credit card or debit card and age restrictions are pretty easy to uphold.

Those that allow minors to use their accounts or gamble in areas where online gambling is illegal have been facing punishment. One of the main problems has been allowing minor to gamble online, and the US government is one jurisdiction upholder that has been cracking down on these types of cybercrime.

The punishments for allowing someone underage to use your account can mean imprisonment in some countries

In the US all it takes is someone to tell someone else that they are gambling online and if that person is underage, someone is bound to tell the authorities. This often risks a sting by the feds who can prove that the account owner was no playing from the location the account was being utilised by using technology. For example, in one case a father was allowing his 16 year old daughter play online poker on his behalf.

The feds used his mobile phone whereabouts while he was out, recorded conversations proving he was not at home where at the time his daughter was playing online

All that was left to prove in the case was that it was his daughter playing online beyond reasonable doubt. Once they pin pointed the mum, who was also out, compared grammar on Facebook chats, they had all the evidence they needed to prove that the daughter was using her father’s online poker account to gamble using real money.

Once all the evidence was 100% conclusive, the effort put into the investigation was clear as the Feds arrested the father who later caved when the evidence was clearly presented

It may seem harmless allowing minors to gamble online, but the long term affects could be devastating to that child and to the economy as whole should more teenagers follow suit and not wait until they are responsibly ready to gamble online. The moral to the story is whatever it is you do to gamble online, make sure that you are fully aware of the consequences should you decide to gamble in places where the laws are strongly formed.
