Online Casino Legislation Pushes Forward in NJ

The state of New Jersey continues to make progress regarding casino games online. This past week, three assembly members of the New Jersey State Assembly voted in favor of the online gaming bill proposed by Sentator Lesniak. The bill, A2578, gives authorization for players to places bets at top rated online casinos while at casinos in Atlantic City within certain limits. The legislation comes as an additional piece of the Casino Control Act.
The new development comes not long after the passage of the S1565 bill, which grants permission to Atlantic City casinos to take bets from players in other states and countries, as long as federal and state authorities agree that it is legal. Proponents of the legislation would like players to be able to play at the top online casinos within state borders.
New Jersey has seen significant support from residents regarding the passage of a casino games online bill.
Robert Griffin, CEO of Trump Entertainment Resorts and President of the Casino Association of New Jersey stated, “The state of New Jersey must be in the forefront of legalizing this emerging marketplace. The state should regulate this activity, enforce strict standards to ensure the games are fair, and collect revenue rather than allow profits and jobs to illegally go overseas.”
Senator Lesniak shared his thoughts as well, “We want to take the lead. We don’t want Nevada to take the lead. New Jersey has already lost out on about $200m because of Governor Christie’s 2011 veto.”
