In-Play Betting May Be Allowed in Australia

There has been news coming out of Australia that indicates that in-play betting may be allowed at top rated online casinos. The Australian government recently sent a briefing to members of the online casino games industry stating that this option could become a possibility in the near future.
Online casino games and no deposit bonuses have shown to be popular among the citizens of Australia. The proposed change could potentially generate an additional $300 million for the country’s gaming business.
There has been debate about inconsistencies that exist within the current system, as they allow for phone betting but not the internet.
Communications Minister Stephen Conroy commented, “While the State of Origin was on last night, you can pick up a phone and make a bet, but you can’t go online and make a bet. So you’ve got a situation where if you make the phone call it’s legal, if you try and do it online it’s illegal. And that seems an anomaly … this is one of the issues that needs to be looked at so that you’ve got consistent laws.”
The government also addressed the online poker industry. It has plans to permit Australian top rated online casinos to offer games like poker and roulette.
Not everyone has responded favorably to the news. Anti-gambling advocates have claimed that Conroy was “backflipping on Labor’s opposition to the expansion of online betting.” Their stance is that, “the risk to problem gamblers outweighed the benefits” of allowing live in-play betting.
