Cryptologic Gets Maltese Licensing for InterCasino

- 02/17/2012
Cryptologic, one of the most veteran online casino software companies, has acquired Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority online gambling licensing for InterCasino from OIGE Ltd., a Malta based company that has been a Cryptologic customer for years. OIGE is a holding company in charge of a number of online casinos based out of Malta. They were willing to transfer their licensing to Cryptologic for “nominal consideration.” The Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority approved the transfer.
This acquisition could be related to future plans for a large purchase. Amaya Gaming Group is currently in talks to purchase Cryptologic. The Canada-based company has offered sums exceeding £34.5 million for the veteran software developer. Some online casino reviews suggest that Cryptologic rushed to seal the deal with OIGE for the Maltese licensing in order to up their purchase value at the last minute and sweeten the deal. An official declaration is expected from Amaya in the coming days.
If Amaya does go through with the purchase it will be a big deal for the international online casino community. Cryptologic, based out of Ireland, has been active in the online casino games industry since 1995. Having released over 300 online casino games, there are very few people in the industry who have not used Cryptologic software. For the Amaya gaming group, this could be a step to gain ground against Playtech. Playtech, another software development giant in the online casino industry, has raised a lot of money in the stock market and set out on an aggressive purchasing campaign.
