COPA Puts Forward Poker Amendments in California

- 08/22/2012By Tommie ClarkGoogle
- The California Online Poker Association, also known as COPA, is a group of sixty tribal governments and card clubs in the state. This week, they issued a statement regarding their recommendations related to SB 1463, California’s online casino games bill, put forth to the bill’s main sponsor, Senator Rod Wright and members of the state legislature.
The suggested amendments from COPA were made in an effort to ensure that California would get a fair revenue share as well as employment opportunities for top rated online poker sites rather than have them be outsourced to other states. COPA expressed its opinion that it is imperative for the state to pass online casino games legislation as soon as possible in order to secure 1,300 jobs and $1.4 billion in potential revenue.
California, like many other states throughout the US is in need of cash flow and is looking toward online gaming to help. Currently, millions of residents of California play poker online and the proper legislation and protections are needed.
The amendments have garnered support from a variety of coalitions as well 15,000 individual citizens who are working to pass an online poker bill as soon as possible.
COPA is comprised of various gaming tribes and card rooms united together with the mission of protecting California players.
