Here we have put together a special report for all you slot fans so you can get to grips to how all these different slots fit into the world of slots.

Classic Slots

The very first slots on the market were 1 payline 5 reel slots that soon turned into 3 reel slots after the original 5 reels and 1 payline started to lose its novelty factor. These 1 payline 3 reel slots still exist today. Some have been slightly modified with new features including extra payline such as 3, 5 and 9 payline classic slots, and there are also version that are progressive slots such as the Microgaming Fruit Splash slot.

Multipayline Slots

If a slot has more than 1 payline, then it is classes as a multipayline slot. It can still be a classic slot with 3 paylines or a modern video slot (we’ll talk about this next) simply because there are multiple line to wager.

Video Slots

A video slot is any slot that does not have physical reels to play on. This means that the slot is played on a video screen. Many classic slots and multiplayline slots today are played on physical arcade-like boxes with video screens. Then of course you have the online slots played on PC and mobile devices that are all video slots because the reels and features have all been computer generated.

Bonus Slots

Any slot that comes with a bonus round is a bonus slot. Some slots such as classic slots don’t usually come with a bonus round. One of the most confusing points to bonus slots is whether or not a free spins bonus round counts as a bonus round. On some slots the free spins round is the bonus round, so there is no bonus arcade style game to play as such. Whether these free spins bonus round make a slot a bonus slot is still something that is hotly debated; therefore, it is best to make you own mind up on this one!

Loyalty Slots

Here is the most confusing slot category of all. However, we can shed some light on these slots. Basically imagine playing a bonus slot, video slot or a classic slot as you normally would. Except with a loyalty slot, there is an extra jackpot payout named the ‘Loyalty Jackpot’. It pays out after you have played a certain number of spins on the slot – so basically the longer or more you play, the sooner you will paid this jackpot.

Rounding it All Up

There are also many other types of slots out there such as progressive and non-progressive, no payline slots, mobile slots, i-slots and so on. Although above are the most commonly mentioned. Probably the main thing you can take away from this, is the fact that a single slot can fall under multiple categories.
