Churchill Downs Puts in for Nevada Online Poker License

- Churchill Downs, the company known for owning the home of the Kentucky Derby, put in an application for a casino games online license in the state of Nevada. If the Nevada Gaming Control Board gives the company the green light, it will become one of the first to legally be able to offer casino games online in the US.
In June, Bally Technologies and Interactive Gaming Technologies were awarded licenses to operate in the state. Their licenses differ from the one Churchill Downs is applying for in that it will only grant them the right to provide the platforms and technologies for companies like Churchill Downs to operate the best online casinos.
It has been reported that over thirty companies have applied for licensure. Bally and IGT must now wait for the authorities to rule on the licenses of Churchill Downs and others.
This past February, Churchill Downs purchased Bluff Media in a move that the brand has said would allow them to enter into the online poker industry once it becomes legal on a state or federal level.
Churchill Downs already has considerable experience in the online casino games industry. Although they are best known for live horse racing and the Kentucky Derby, the brand also owns the online casino site TwinSpires.com which takes bets from players in the United States. The site gives players of legal age the chance to bet on horses on its site. In 2010, the company also acquired TwinSpires’ main rival, YouBet.com, and brought together both sites under the TwinSpires brand.
